Echala pa' ca
- Johnny Colon
(New York)

"El que no baila con Johnny..." Nuff said...

No te puedo querer
- La Sucursal S.A.
(Barcelona, España)
Wow! Great feeling and sabor straight out of Barcelona, Spain. Check the bands webpage here. From the great compilation of DJ El Chino (Cali) - Solar Latin Club Vol I. Buy it here.
"Te voy hacer llorar"
- Porfi Jimenez
(Venezuela)

Un rico  cha cha cha from one of Venezuelas many great salsa masters. Saborrrrrrrrrrr.

Candela
– Chuito and his Latin Uniques (New York)

This track is from the hard to get material of Chuito Velez, a latin pianist that was mainly into latin soul/funk in the late 60's. Candela is a funky son-guaguanco with a great piano solo from Chuito. From the
late 60's album “Chuito Velez From The Street”.
Si supieras
– Los Blanco
(Venezuela)
Salsa straight out of Venezuela, once again... Los Blanco show that they got all the flavour, and then some...

Comparacion
- Latin Dimensions
(New York)
This band must not be confused with the more famous Dimension Latina from Venezuela. This band was created by Roberto Torres in 1972, and wow did they know what's up! All their stuff is killer montunos con charanga for all the dancers!

Goza mi guaguanco
- Willie Rodriguez
(New York)

Willie Rodriguez led his own hard-hitting orchestra from the late 1950s to the early 1970s. This track is from the increadibly hard to find LP-album Heat Wave on Fonseca Records in 1965. Some of his stuff can be bought on CD here.

Asi suena mi tres
–La 5ta Galaxia
(Venezuela)

Venezuela know what's up, once again! This is a beatifull up-tempo montuno with some killer solos on tres.

"Presidente Dante
- Frankie Dante y Orquesta La Flamboyan
(New York)

Frankie Dante, orginally from Santo Domingo - one of the most original charachters of the New York salsa scene in the late 60's &70's. Social consciousness and hard hitting rythms went hand in hand for him and his orchestra.

Echame tu bendicion
– Orquesta Mundo
(Puerto Rico)
Orquesta Mundo from Ponce, Puerto Rico, on their first (and last?) album from 1975. Great montuno and guaguanco tracks.

Una vez mas
–
Chino Rodriguez y la Consagracion
(New York)
Half Puerto Rican and half Chinese ('Borin-chino'), El Chino Rodriguez had a swinging band in NYC in the late 60's and 70's. This on's from the great 1974 selft-titled album on Mary Lou records! Buy the cd on re-issue here.

Rico guaguanco
Wiso Pagan y sus Internacionales
(New York)
Sweet sweet swinging guaguanco from Wiso Pagan - 1973. -from the  album "Aprovechate". Buy the cd- re-issue here.

Aguanta la bronca compay
Los Jimaguas
(New York)
Los Jimaguas from the LP "Igualitos y con sabor", 1973 Mericana records. This is it people! Y no hay mas na'!!!  From my point of view is harder to make a better album for salsa dancers than this one. There is no fill-in material on this album - pure swinging guaguancos, montunos, killer descarga and even a great cha cha.

Reir y bailar
Rafael Solano y su Orquesta
(New York)
Originally from Santo Domingo, Rafael Solano was doing mostly merengue with a few guarachas/guaguancos- montunos cut into the mix. This right here is an example of the versatility of this guy. Amazing feeling on this guaguanco. From the album "Dominicanita" on Discolando records.

El vive bien del barrio
Cheo Rosario
(New York)
From the album with the same title recorded in  1966. Cheo Rosarios top notch Latin band from the Bronx, New York. This is a swinging guaguanco from '66 to eternity - to the dancers in the 21st Century.  Buy the re-issue on CD right here.

Las muchachitas del guaguanco'
Navarro y el Conjunto Saratoga
(Cuba) 2004
To finish it of we'll go right back to the present. Navarro y el Conjunto Saratoga brings the real deal for the 21st century showing that the sabor and sound of  the glorius past is still possible. This is from La Habana, Cuba, but is luckly completely timba-free. A real swinging guaguanco/montuno for all the dancers right here!    Buy this album here.
